Stay Healthy This Cold And Flu Season

Is it just me, or has the 2013 cold and flu season been particularly rough?

This year I’ve seen quite a few of my friends and their kiddos struggle with hard-hitting symptoms like a deadly sore throat, extreme tiredness, loss of voice, coughing, headaches and—my personal favourite—congestion that lasts for days.

I keep a daily vitamin regimen that I think is the reason why I have been lucky enough to steer clear of any bugs.

Stuff Your Immune System Will Love

I take these supplements daily, and my immune system is apparently strong enough to have made it through this cold and flu season unscathed. Rejoice! (And knock on wood.)

1. Gaia Herbs – Oil of Oregano $25.99

Gaia

Thank goodness someone got smart and put this nasty-tasting oil in a capsule, because it’s pure magic. I take it once or twice daily. It knocks out bacteria and viruses, and supports a healthy digestive tract as well. Expensive, I know—but well worth it.

2. Quantum Health – Super Immune+ (Lysine, Olive Leaf and Astragalus) $14.99

Lysine

These three immune boosting ingredients stimulate the immune system to do what its meant to do.

3. Ecological Formulas – B-Complex $15.00

All the benefits of a good, daily B-Complex are too long to list, but almost every bodily function depends on B-vitamins. I love this brand and the fact thatit’s yeast free. It gives me energy, healthy-looking skin, helps with digestion and helps the other vitamins I take to do their job.

Tips For the Common Cold

If you’re suffering with cold/flu symptoms right now, I feel for you! Here are a few more of my favourite remedies and “health bombs”:

  • Throat Coat herbal tea
  • Organic Raw Honey (or Manuka Honey if you don’t mind spending the extra bucks!)
  • Fresh pressed vegetable juice
  • NatraBio Natural Sore Throat Spray (a little nasty, but effective on that sore throat)
  • Cold Snap herbal supplements

I know the mantra is strictly, “Get plenty of rest and drink lots of fluids,” but I say—do whatever makes you feel good. It will probably make you feel better to go outside and take a walk in the sunshine than stay cooped up in your house all day.  You can drink fluids anywhere!
