I love me some good sleep, but like everyone else I live a busy life and don’t always get the rest I need (and desperately want.) After a week or so of poor sleep, I find myself groggy, crabbby, forgetful and doing just generally stupid things.
Tips To Get Better Sleep
Take A Power Nap
Until recently, I didn’t believe in the concept of a “power nap.” Don’t underestimate the power of great sleep. If you’re wiped out, lay down for 15-30 minutes and recharge. Tackle those dishes after you catch some Zs… you’ll be glad you did.
Can’t Sleep At Night?
I have this problem sometimes–my mind is racing, and I have so many things going on that I’m actually working in my head instead of sleeping.
Rather than lay there, tossing and turning, write it all down. Make a a to-do list or jot down your creative thoughts, etc. Set this list at your bedside and look at it in the morning. This way you can clear your head for some intense rest time.
If you find yourself pretty consistently restless, you might want to analyze your eating habits. Cut out excessive sugar and caffeine (especially after 6pm), and replace these items with healthy snacks and water. Also, enter some physical exercise into your daily routine and you’ll surely fall asleep more easily.
Falling Asleep Vs. Staying Asleep
Millions of Americans lean on habit-forming prescription drugs to get better sleep, without realizing there are natural remedies that just might do the trick for you. I have personally tried all of these products below, and I encourage you to test them out for yourself. See what gives you the most solid rest.
1. Calms Forte – Homeopathic Sleep Aid
I love this product because it’s made of only natural, botanical ingredients. It’s pretty tasteless, not habit-forming at all and has no side effects. They even make one for kids (woo hoo!)
2. Natural Calm – Magnesium Anti-Stress Drink
The taste of this one might take a little getting used to, but I promise you a glorious night’s sleep if you drink this right before going to bed. Every time I have a hot cup of Natural Calm, I sleep solidly without waking up until morning. It’s also great for menstrual cramps because it helps with muscle tension and spasming.
Warning: If you take too much of this, you might experience a few extra trips to the bathroom! Use as directed.
3. Sleepytime Herbal Tea
I don’t know what it is about this herbal tea, but it pretty much knocks me out every time. You can find this at nearly every grocery store, and some places sell organic versions of the same herbal tea blend.
Better sleep awaits… good night!
